Laser Therapy vs Cryotherapy - Post exercise recovery
There is moderate evidence to support the use of Laser Therapy over cryotherapy when using this modality post-exercise for muscle recovery in trained and untrained athletes.
Shorter recovery times, identified by a fast return to baseline muscle torque and subjective muscle soreness values, can be seen 24 to 96 hours following Laser Therapy application
How does Laser Therapy work?
Laser Therapy harnesses coherent light, particularly red and near-infrared wavelengths, to trigger photobiomodulation within cells. This prompts light-sensitive receptors, boosting cell metabolism and ATP production, vital for energy.
Cells absorb this rejuvenating light, leading to heightened ATP-driven processes. Nutrient exchange across cell membranes further supports cellular revitalization.
In tissue healing, Laser Therapy acts as a turbocharger, propelling natural healing processes. This infusion accelerates tissue repair, eases pain and inflammation, and relaxes muscles, fostering a champion-like vitality for accelerated recovery.
